PG 1/60 Unicorn Gundam 02 Banshee Norn — LED Psychoframe in Gold
If the PG Unicorn is the purest expression of the UC era, the Banshee Norn is its dark counterpart — black, gold, and utterly menacing. The LED system illuminates the golden psychoframe in destroy mode with a warm amber glow that looks otherworldly in a darkened room.
LED System
The LED controller drives individual illumination across chest, shoulders, and legs. The effect in a dark room is genuinely dramatic — golden veins of light visible through the armor panels. Bandai's finest LED implementation until the Perfectibility announcement.
PG Banshee Norn: The Black Twin
The PG Banshee Norn (2014) is the Banshee's final form — armored, weaponized for combat, and the dark counterpart to the Unicorn. The PG kit includes the full armor configuration plus the deployable psychoframe gimmick that runs through the entire RX-0 line.
For UC collectors who own the PG Unicorn, this is the natural companion piece. They display together as the iconic 'Unicorn vs Banshee' rivalry.
The Armor Plating
The Banshee Norn's defining visual feature is the heavy armor plating — chest reinforcement, shoulder pauldrons, leg armor. The PG kit captures this faithfully with thick armor sections that give the figure visible mass and weight on the shelf.
The yellow accents (rare for the Banshee) are properly molded; the gold-yellow plastic has a slight metallic finish.
The Armed Armor System
The 'Armed Armor' refers to the Norn's specialized weapons mounted on the limbs. The kit includes: Armed Armor BS (beam shield projector on the wrist), Armed Armor DE (heavy armor and beam cannon on the right shoulder), and the Beam Magnum (held in left hand).
The arm-mounted armaments are removable for simplified display or replacement of the standard arm armor.
The Psycho Frame Treatment
Same engineering as the PG Unicorn — clear pink psychoframe panels visible through deployed armor sections. With LEDs (sold separately), the entire psychoframe lights internally with the Newtype glow.
The Banshee's color scheme (black with yellow accents) creates higher contrast with the psychoframe glow than the Unicorn's white scheme. Photographically, the Banshee is more dramatic.
Build Time
35-50 hours. Similar to the PG Unicorn but with the additional armor pieces. Plan multiple weeks of evening work.
The Armed Armor sections are self-contained subassemblies. You can build the body first, then the Armed Armor pieces, then assemble — this allows breaking the project into stages.
Display Pairing
Shelved next to a PG Unicorn, the two figures create the iconic Banshee-vs-Unicorn rivalry display. The contrasting color schemes (white-vs-black, blue-trim-vs-yellow-trim) photograph beautifully under a single directional light source.
Plan shelf space for both: roughly 80cm × 60cm × 80cm combined footprint. A dedicated PG shelf or display case is the right setup.
