SD EX Standard Barbatos — IBO's Chibi Warrior
The SD EX Standard Barbatos is the cheapest way into the IBO universe. The exposed Gundam Frame aesthetic translates surprisingly well to SD format, and at ¥660 it's practically a gift. Perfect companion to a shelf of bigger IBO kits.
SD EX Standard Barbatos: IBO's Chibi Warrior
The SD EX Standard Gundam Barbatos (2016) is Bandai's SD-format Barbatos from Iron-Blooded Orphans. SD EX Standard is a slightly different chibi format from Cross Silhouette — slightly more compact, fewer pieces, designed as a quick budget build.
For IBO collectors who want every Barbatos variant, this is the SD entry. For casual SD builders, it's a fast, affordable build.
The EX Standard Format
SD EX Standard is the simplest SD format — fewer parts than SDCS, no CS Frame option, no inner-frame engineering. The build takes 60-90 minutes; the result is a compact chibi figure suitable for shelf display.
Trade-off: limited articulation, no posing flexibility. EX Standard kits are display pieces, not action figures.
The Barbatos Aesthetic
The SD captures the Barbatos's distinctive 'frame-exposed' aesthetic — visible mechanical detail on the chest and arms, despite the chibi proportions. The mace weapon is included as a simple molded piece.
Color Scheme
White and dark gray with red accents. Standard IBO/Barbatos palette at SD scale.
Display Considerations
SD EX Standard figures look best in groups. An SD Barbatos + SD Lupus + SD Lupus Rex creates an IBO-themed SD shelf at very low cost (each kit is ¥770-1,100).
For dedicated IBO fans, the SD line provides affordable variety alongside the more expensive HG and MG releases.
