HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos — IBO's Bare-Fisted Fighter
The HG Barbatos perfectly captures IBO's raw mechanical aesthetic. The exposed Gundam Frame, asymmetric battle maces, and overall scrappy visual language make it one of the most unique-looking HG kits in the lineup.
HG Barbatos: IBO's Bare-Fisted Hero
The HG 1/144 Gundam Barbatos (2015) is the standard 1/144 representation of Mikazuki Augus's mobile suit from Iron-Blooded Orphans. The Barbatos is unique among Gundams — it doesn't have a beam rifle. It's a melee-focused MS that fights with maces, bare fists, and brute force.
For IBO fans, the HG Barbatos is the entry point to the line and one of Bandai's better-engineered HGs of the 2015 era.
The Frame-Exposed Aesthetic
The Barbatos's design exposes large sections of internal mechanism — visible piston cables in the legs, exposed pectoral plate joints, mechanical detail on the chest. The HG captures this with proper part separation, allowing the 'inner frame' to be visible without disassembly.
This makes the Barbatos one of the more visually distinctive HG kits — most HGs hide their mechanical detail behind armor.
The Mace Weapon
The Barbatos's signature weapon is the Smoothbore Cannon mounted on the back, plus the smaller mace-like weapons stored on the hip. The kit includes both. The cannon can be deployed forward for combat-pose display.
The mace itself has a satisfying weight — Bandai used denser plastic for the mace head, giving the figure a stable swing-pose.
The Form Variants
Several Barbatos forms exist as separate HG kits: Barbatos 1st Form (standard), 4th Form, 6th Form, and Lupus, Lupus Rex. Each represents different stages of the show. The collector can assemble the full Barbatos progression.
The Color Scheme
White, dark gray, with red accents. The IBO color palette is more muted than typical Gundam — closer to military/utilitarian than colorful hero. The Barbatos's coloring reflects its role as a 'workhorse' mobile suit.
Articulation
HG articulation tuned for melee combat poses. Strong shoulder rotation accommodates overhead mace swings. Hip ball joints support deep stances. The waist swivel allows torso rotation during sword-fighting motion.
The Barbatos is one of the more poseable HGs of its era — a design that translates well to action display.
Display in IBO Context
HG Barbatos pairs with HG Lupus, HG Lupus Rex, and the various IBO antagonist HGs (Kimaris, Graze) for a coherent IBO-themed display.
