RG 1/144 Char's Zaku II — The Red Comet at Real Grade

The RG Char's Zaku II is the premier Zeon entry in the Real Grade lineup. The crimson red is rich and deep, the mono-eye detail is excellent, and the inner frame brings the Zaku's mechanical complexity to life at 1/144 scale.

RG Char's Zaku II: The Red Comet at Real Grade

The RG Char's Zaku II (2010) is the second RG ever released — following the RG RX-78-2. Bandai chose Char's signature suit as the second showcase of the Real Grade format, putting the iconic 'Red Comet' silhouette through the Advanced MS Joint engineering.

For Zaku enthusiasts, the RG Char's Zaku II is one of the standard 1/144 representations of the most-built mobile suit in Gunpla history.

The Inner Frame at 1/144

Standard RG Advanced MS Joint frame. The Zaku's articulation accommodates the show's common poses — Heat Hawk swing, machine gun aim, knee-bend kneeling stance. All work cleanly.

One known weakness: the hip joint can loosen with extensive posing. A small drop of clear nail polish on the friction surface restores tension.

The Iconic Red Color

Char's signature red molded plastic. Slightly metallic finish, deeper than the original 1/144 HG Zaku's red. The RG version has refined color separation — the dark gray inner frame, the lighter gray armor plates, the deep red main armor all properly molded.

The Heat Hawk & Machine Gun

The Zaku's signature melee weapon (Heat Hawk axe) and Zaku Machine Gun are both included. Two grenades and the iconic Zaku Bazooka are also in the box.

The Heat Hawk has a slight weight feel — the head is heavier than the handle, allowing for natural held-pose display.

What Sets This Apart from the HG

The RG offers double-hinge knees, ball-jointed shoulders with three-axis range, ankle pivots accommodating kneeling poses, and a swivel waist. The HGUC version has none of these in the same depth.

For builders who want the Zaku's combat poses to look authentic (not 'standing toy'), the RG is meaningfully better.

The Pilot Connection

Char's Zaku II represents the One Year War era of Char's career. For complete Char-themed display: Char's Zaku II → Char's Gelgoog → Hyaku Shiki → Sazabi. Each kit represents a different stage of his career.
