MG 1/100 Strike Freedom Gundam — SEED's Crown Jewel in Master Grade
The MG Strike Freedom delivers on every promise. The gold-plated inner frame (actual metallic gold plastic) peeks through joint gaps and wing mounting points in the most satisfying way. This is eye candy engineering.
DRAGOON System at 1/100
Eight DRAGOON units deploy from the back skirt in full formation. Each unit is individually poseable and the overall silhouette — white armor, gold frame, spread wings — is one of the most recognizable display poses in modern Gunpla.
MG Strike Freedom Full Burst: Maximum Spectacle
The MG Strike Freedom Full Burst Mode (2012) is the special edition Strike Freedom that includes effect parts for the 'Full Burst' attack — every weapon firing simultaneously. Standard MG Strike Freedom + the Full Burst effects parts pack = this kit.
For SEED fans, the Full Burst is the iconic moment from the show. This kit lets you display that exact pose on your shelf.
The Effect Parts Spread
Full Burst includes: two beam rifles with extending barrels and effect parts simulating beam discharge, two beam saber dual-handles with energy effects, two railgun rifles with translucent fire effects, and two beam shield projectors with deployed beam effects.
Combined with all wings deployed and dual rifles aimed forward, the figure becomes a centerpiece display occupying roughly 30cm × 30cm of shelf space.
The Wing System
Eight gold-trimmed wing binders per side, mounted on rotating pivots. The wings have multiple lock positions (closed, half-deploy, full-deploy). The Full Burst pose uses fully deployed wings.
The wings are heavier than standard MG wings due to the gold-plated finish. The pivot system uses ratcheted detents to hold them stable even at extreme deploy angles.
The Inner Frame
Standard 2012-era MG frame. Hip ball joints, double-hinge knees, swivel waist with roll range, ball-jointed shoulders with three-axis range. All articulation accommodates the Full Burst spread without strain.
The chest piece has a sliding panel that exposes the central reactor crystal — used to indicate 'Full Burst' activation in the show. Subtle but appreciated detail.
Build Considerations
This kit takes 12-15 hours for a careful first build, due to the complexity of the wing assembly and the extensive effect-parts. Plan multiple evenings; rushing leads to mistakes.
The Full Burst effect parts are clear-plastic injections that benefit from Tamiya Clear Pink and Clear Yellow paints to enhance the energy aesthetic. Out of the box they look acceptable but slightly toy-like.
Display Setup
Action base required. Static stance with all this complexity is anticlimactic. Get a sturdy action base (Bandai Action Base 5 or 6, or aftermarket Kotobukiya Mecha Stand), set up the figure in flight pose with wings deployed and rifles aimed forward, and lock the effect parts into place.
The full setup takes 30-45 minutes once the kit is complete. Don't take this kit on/off display casually — the effect parts are time-consuming to attach correctly.
Compared to the Standard MG Strike Freedom
Standard MG: ¥5,500. Full Burst: ¥7,200. The difference is the effect parts pack. If you intend to display in flight pose with full effects, the Full Burst is the right choice. If you intend to display in static stance, the standard kit is fine and saves ¥1,700.
