MG 1/100 Char's Zaku II Ver. 2.0 — Red Zeon Legend Perfected
Char's Zaku II Ver. 2.0 is the definitive 1/100 Zeon kit. The Ver. 2.0 inner frame gives it articulation that the original MG couldn't dream of, and the rich crimson with gold mono-eye creates a display piece worthy of the Red Comet himself.
MG Char's Zaku II Ver.2.0: The Red Comet Redefined
The MG Char's Zaku II Ver.2.0 (2008) is Bandai's modernized Master Grade version of Char's signature suit. The Ver.2.0 designation indicates a complete mold redesign rather than minor refresh. New inner frame, refined proportions, and dramatically improved articulation over the older Ver.1.0.
For Char fans, this kit is essential. There's no Ver.3.0 on the horizon; the Ver.2.0 remains the definitive 1/100 Char's Zaku II.
The Inner Frame
The Ver.2.0 frame became the template for subsequent Zeon MS in the same era — the standard Zaku II Ver.2.0, the Gouf Ver.2.0, the Char's Gelgoog Ver.2.0 all share this frame architecture.
Hip joints with full ball-joint range, double-hinge knees, swivel waist with roll range, ball-jointed shoulders. Standard Ver.2.0 era articulation.
The Color Achievement
Char's signature red — slightly metallic, deeper than primary red. Contrasts with the gunmetal inner frame and dark gray armor accents. The color separation is excellent for the era.
The Heat Hawk & Machine Gun
Iconic Zaku weapons. The Heat Hawk has a satisfying weight (head heavier than handle). The Machine Gun has a removable magazine. Both are included plus two grenades and the Zaku Bazooka.
The hand units include alternate finger positions for the Machine Gun trigger and closed-grip alternates for the Heat Hawk.
The Newtype Hatch
The Ver.2.0 introduced a sliding chest panel that exposes the cockpit interior — a feature absent from the original Ver.1.0. Small molded pilot figure visible inside.
The Decal Set
Comprehensive water-slide decals are included with the standard Ver.2.0 release. Apply per the manual; the unit insignia and Newtype warning markings significantly elevate the kit's visual richness.
Build Difficulty
Approximately 8-10 hours for a careful first build. Standard Ver.2.0 era complexity. Logical assembly, clear instructions, satisfying progression.
Display Recommendation
The Char's Zaku II Ver.2.0 looks best in stationary combat stance — Heat Hawk in hand, machine gun mounted on hardpoint, slight forward stance. The figure has presence without dynamic posing requirements.
