HGUC 1/144 Nu Gundam — Amuro's Final Battle Suit
The HGUC Nu Gundam is a clean, faithful rendition of Amuro's legendary fin funnel mobile suit. Six poseable fin funnels, a massive beam rifle, and that unmistakable white-and-blue color scheme — all at HGUC pricing.
HGUC Nu Gundam: The Workhorse
The HGUC Nu Gundam (2007) is the standard 1/144 Nu kit and the most-built representation of the design at any scale. The kit predates the RG Nu Gundam by years and remains the cheapest entry into the iconic Char's Counterattack mecha.
For collectors who want a Nu Gundam without committing to the RG or MG price points, this is the answer.
What 2007-Era HGUC Looks Like
The mold dates to 2007, putting it in the older HGUC generation. Visible weaknesses: less articulated than modern HGs, simpler joint engineering, and color separation that requires occasional sticker work.
The proportions are correct. The Nu's signature wide shoulder armor with mounted fin funnels is captured. The face is excellent — proper V-fin, printed eyes.
The Fin Funnel System
Six fin funnels mount on the rear backpack. They're detachable for combat-pose display but don't have individual articulation (unlike the RG Nu's articulated funnels). For static display this is fine; for dynamic 'fin funnel barrier' poses, the RG is significantly better.
Beam Rifle, Saber, Shield
Standard Nu Gundam loadout: beam rifle (with extending stock), beam saber dual-handle (two blades), shield with the iconic chest-mount, and beam tomahawk (small axe alternate weapon). All accessories included.
The Color Scheme
White, blue, gray, yellow trim. Properly molded with no painting required for primary colors. Some small details (V-fin gold accents, internal panel reds) require sticker work.
Building Considerations
2-3 hour build for a careful first build. Easy to recommend as a beginner kit. Few small parts, logical assembly order.
The Decision Tree
HGUC Nu (¥1,800): cheap entry. RG Nu (¥4,400): articulated funnels, modern engineering. RG Nu Ka Signature (¥8,800): premium Katoki redesign. MG Nu Ka (¥6,800): the 1/100 representation. PG Unicorn... wait, that's a different kit.
For casual collectors, the HGUC is fine. For dedicated Nu fans, work up the tier.
