HGUC 1/144 Hi-Nu Gundam Ver.Ka — The Superior Nu
The Hi-Nu Gundam Ver.Ka HGUC is one of the tallest and most imposing High Grade kits ever made. The massive fin funnel array and Katoki-redesigned proportions give it a commanding presence that punches far above its grade.
HGUC Hi-Nu Ver.Ka: The Fan-Designed Successor
The Hi-Nu Gundam is Char's Counterattack-Beltorchika's Children's vision of the Nu Gundam — bigger fin funnels, refined proportions, and a more streamlined silhouette. It's a fan-canon variant designed by Hajime Katoki that became official through Bandai's expanding UC catalog.
The HGUC Hi-Nu Ver.Ka (2008) brought this design to 1/144 scale with Bandai's then-recent Ver.Ka treatment.
The Ver.Ka Difference
The Ver.Ka designation means Hajime Katoki personally signed off on the proportions. For the Hi-Nu specifically, this resulted in slightly more dramatic shoulder armor, sharper wing-binder edges, and a more aggressive overall silhouette than standard Hi-Nu kits.
Compared to the standard HGUC Hi-Nu (a separate kit), the Ver.Ka has tighter proportions and slightly better color separation.
The Larger Fin Funnels
The Hi-Nu's signature feature is its larger funnels — up to 1.5x the size of the standard Nu Gundam's. The HGUC kit captures this faithfully with six fin funnels that mount on dedicated rear hardpoints.
Like the standard HGUC Nu, the funnels don't have individual articulation. They're for static deployed-pose display only.
The Beam Rifle Variant
The Hi-Nu uses a different beam rifle than the standard Nu — slightly larger, with a forward-mounted scope and an extending barrel. The HGUC kit includes this distinctive rifle plus the standard beam saber dual-handle and shield.
Color Scheme Refinements
The Hi-Nu Ver.Ka uses a slightly cooler white than the standard Hi-Nu — leaning toward blue-white rather than pure-white. The blue accents are deeper. The contrast creates a slightly more 'space cold' aesthetic.
Display Recommendation
The Hi-Nu pairs naturally with the standard Nu Gundam (HGUC) on the same shelf as the 'evolved' version. The size difference (Hi-Nu is slightly larger) creates visual hierarchy.
For dedicated Nu fans, the trio of Nu, Hi-Nu, and Sazabi makes a complete CCA-era display.
