HG 1/144 Gundam Aerial — Witch from Mercury's Protagonist Kit

The Gundam Aerial is a fresh, elegant design that stands apart from classic Gundam aesthetics. The HG kit captures Suletta's mobile suit with clean lines, translucent GUND-bit wings, and satisfying build flow.

GUND-Bit Wings

The bit striker wings are the star of the show. Each segment is individually molded in a translucent blue-green that genuinely glows under light. The arrangement options let you recreate key anime scenes perfectly.

The HG Aerial: First WFM Lead Mecha

The HG Aerial released in October 2022 as the first kit of the Witch from Mercury line. As Suletta's primary mobile suit through most of the show, the Aerial sets the visual aesthetic for the entire WFM era — slim, asymmetric, post-Vanguard-of-Aesthetics aesthetics with a focus on negative space and clean panel breaks.

For a first-of-line release, the engineering quality is high. Bandai clearly invested in making the Aerial a flagship.

The GUND-bit Shield

The Aerial's signature feature is the GUND-bit shield — a circular shield made of detachable orbiting bits that can deploy as remote weapons. The HG kit includes the full bit-shield assembly with all 11 bits and the deployment-pose effect parts.

The bits clip into the shield via tiny pegs. They can be removed and arranged in deployed flight patterns around the figure. Bandai includes a small action base extension for displaying deployed bits.

Articulation

HG-standard ball-jointed shoulders, double-hinge elbows and knees, hip ball joints, and a swivel waist. The neck has a longer-than-average pivot range, accommodating the Aerial's long-neck silhouette without constraining head movement.

The kneeling-pose capability is excellent — the Aerial can settle into a low kneeling stance without joint strain.

Color Separation

White, dark blue, red, yellow, gray. All molded in their final colors. The chest pattern is pre-printed. The face has the eyes properly applied.

One area requires sticker or paint: the small red panel inside the bit shield. Bandai includes the sticker; the result is acceptable but a coat of paint would look better.

Build Quality at HG Price

About 3-4 hours for a careful first build. Easy to recommend as an entry point into WFM kits or HG kits in general.

The hip joint can occasionally feel slightly loose after extensive posing. A drop of clear nail polish on the friction surface fixes it.

Pairing Options

The HG Aerial pairs naturally with the HG Aerial Rebuild (Suletta's later form), the HG Calibarn (the next-stage mobile suit), the HG Lfrith (Suletta's mother's prototype), and the various Pharact / Schwarzette antagonist kits. A complete WFM cast shelf is achievable for under ¥30,000 in HG scale.
