SD Cross Silhouette RX-78-2 Gundam — Classic Gets the CS Treatment

The SD CS RX-78-2 delivers the classic Gundam in the Cross Silhouette dual-mode format. SD mode is adorable, CS mode with the taller frame looks almost like a mini HGUC. Great value two-in-one display option.

SD Cross Silhouette RX-78-2: Classic Gets the CS Treatment

The SD Cross Silhouette RX-78-2 (2018) is Bandai's modernized SD treatment of the original Gundam. The Cross Silhouette format adds an optional 'CS Frame' inner skeleton that allows the figure to be displayed in either pure-SD chibi proportions or stretched to nearly HG-equivalent proportions.

For SD collectors, this is the standard SDCS RX-78. For HG collectors, this kit serves as a small-scale companion piece on a UC-themed shelf.

The Cross Silhouette Format

Pure SD mode: short legs, large head, cute proportions. CS Frame mode: stretched body, slimmer proportions, more 'real-mecha adjacent' look. Both modes are display-ready; you choose at build time.

The CS Frame is shared across the SDCS line. Buying multiple SDCS kits gives you multiple frames for swapping between figures.

RX-78-Specific Engineering

The SDCS RX-78-2 captures the iconic V-fin head, the chest pattern, the shoulder armor, and the leg striping. Color separation is excellent for an SD kit — the white, blue, red, and yellow are all properly molded without stickers.

The Beam Rifle & Saber

Standard RX-78 accessories at SD scale. Beam rifle (with simplified articulation), beam saber (single, clear pink), shield (with the iconic chest-mount system), and a hyper bazooka.

Articulation

Limited in SD mode (short limbs can't reach much). Expanded in CS Frame mode (full HG-tier articulation). For action display, use CS Frame mode; for cute static display, use SD mode.

Build Time

About 90 minutes for a careful first build. Quick afternoon project.

Display Considerations

SD figures need company. A single SD on a shelf full of HG/MG kits looks adrift. Group SD figures together — an SDCS RX-78, SDCS Char's Zaku, and SDCS Sazabi create an excellent UC-themed SD shelf.
